Prospectus: Portfolio 2019
I have been a keen photographer for many years but it is only now, in my retirement, that I have found the time to study the subject in the depth it deserves. I adopted DSLR in 2008 and realised its power and potential. I seek to understand, as well as exploit, such new technologies. In my studies, as well as personally, I also use analogue cameras, so I am not discarding older tried and tested methods, either.
I have been an avid traveller for all my life with a wealth of travel experiences to share. I have travelled throughout Europe from Jyvaskyla in Finland in the northeast, to Madrid in the southwest. I have travelled extensively in USA and Canada, as well as the Far East and Australasia. My family has always used cameras and I have always travelled with a camera to hand.
Recently, since retirement, I have studied BA Photography at the University of Northampton. If I were to categorise my Photography, I would say that my work is in the landscape and documentary genres, with a keen interest in Engineering Themes, essentially the bigger, the better. In short I will photograph anything that is outdoors and presents a challenge.
I recognise that I tend to think big and usually have to trim my projects to a sensible size as I progress, which enables me to filter the content and concentrate on the crux of a subject. However, I would much sooner be in this position than having insufficient scope to make a project viable. In my earlier career it was a prerequisite to be able to see the bigger picture, maybe I am applying this approach to my photography.
